About my vids (My life as a vidder in 5 parts)

I came to vidding when I didn't even know what that was. I loved the show Everwood and saw a video of someone and decided to try it out. it was in late 2005 I guess. What I did was crap but it was a first step to something. At least, that's what I tell myself. After streching my fingers on a few bad vids, I started to do a few narrative vids. I was vidding for me and a few fan of the shows who enjoyed my vids. Nothing was visually stunning. I was telling a story. I always tried to work on my editing and make it flow, but if you watched some of my old work, you can see it's not that good...

After a while I started to vid to other fandom and it challenged me in a good way. I think I learned something from every vid I made from then on. Whether it was discovering a useful transition/effect or just a way to make the vid that would work better. I also began to watch other vidder's work which challenged me and pushed me further, I think (not that I'm very far on that road ;)). I'm trying to progress as a vidder ever since, proving something to me with every new vid while having fun.

I love Canon. I love character studies and overviews. Most of the time narratives. I'm mainly about slow paced. I have a hard time vidding anything else. No matter what, it's what speaks to me as a person. I love watching action vids, but I don't think I can vid it that well. I try to do different things though but it's not that easy. So I try to change fandom more often than not because it helps to gt you out of the confort zone.

I still believe there's "vidding" vids (for lack of a better phrasing) which are more about saying something, pushing ideas, giving new perspective etc, and more fannish vids, simple vids which are more about just celebrating fandom and characters or a show. I sometimes do vids just for me because they make me happy, but I vid mostly because I believe in the power of vids as a mean of expression and I find a great freedom in vidding for that reason.

I vid with Sony Vegas (6.0 at the moment). Always have. Maybe will try Premiere one day but for now, I'm happy with Vegas. :)
